Nicholas Pooran step down as West Indies Captain

Nicholas Pooran has quit as white-ball captain of the West Indies on the back of the side's disappointing first-round exit in the 2022 T20 World Cup; Cricket West Indies confirmed on Monday (November 21).

On May 3, 2022, Pooran officially took over the reins from Pollard after the experienced all-rounder retired from international cricket. Under his leadership, the West Indies won just four out of 17 ODIs and eight out of 23 T20Is. In the recently concluded T20 World Cup, the West Indies defeated Zimbabwe but lost to Ireland and Scotland and couldn't progress to the Super 12s.

Pooran hasn't been in good form, either. He has collected just 94 matches in his last 10 T20Is and aggregated 25 runs over three innings in the T20 World Cup.

Jimmy Adams, CWI director of cricket, noted: "On behalf of CWI, I want to thank Nicholas for his time leading our white ball teams. Having spoken with him, I know he remains fully committed to West Indies cricket, and I am convinced he has a big role to play in our future.
